Rhine Explorer

The Rhine is famous the world over for its spectacular scenery and enchanting towns. Explore some of its best attractions aboard the superb MV Serenade I on this fabulous river cruise

Rhine Explorer

  • UK/Amsterdam - 1

By air: Fly from a choice of airports to Amsterdam.

By rail: Eurostar from St Pancras to Brussels. Transfer by coach to Amsterdam to board MV Serenade I.

  • Amsterdam/UK - 2

The morning is free to explore the city – perhaps Anne Frank’s House; the treasures of the Rijksmuseum or the Van Gogh Museum. Alternatively, there’s an optional sightseeing tour around this vibrant city. MV Serenade I departs at lunchtime, cruising gently towards Cologne.

  • Cologne - 3

Cologne is a wonderful city in which to spend an afternoon. With a long history that’s evident in its architecture and a vibrant atmosphere, it is a city that has much to offer the visitor. Head to the main square, where you will see the magnificent cathedral, whose soaring spires were once the tallest structures in the world. An optional city tour is available, where you will learn more about the history of Cologne.

  • Koblenz - 4

We arrive in Koblenz this morning, where we have a full day amidst the towns’ ancient Roman walls and beautifully restored Old Quarter. Why not join our optional walking tour of Koblenz this morning, to learn a little more about its 2000-year history? This afternoon, we offer an optional trip by coach along the Moselle to the beautiful town of Cochem. Enjoy a stroll around the pretty old town or visit the mighty Reichsburg Castle that towers above this picturesque town.

  • Rhine Gorge & Rudesheim - 5

Spend a relaxing morning aboard MV Serenade I as you get to know the history-steeped Rhine Gorge. Abundant vineyards, pretty villages, imposing castles and the unique Lorelei Rock make this one of Europe’s most stunning riverscapes. The castles are testament to the river’s long, and at times tempestuous, history. Later, arrive at the pretty wine town of Rudesheim where you can sample some of the fine local Riesling wines in a tavern. There is an optional trip to Siegfried’s Mechanical Music Museum, or why not take the cable car up to the Niederwald Monument, a 32ft high statue that commemorates the German empire. The views from the monument across the Rhine, its countless castles and the surrounding vineyards are simply incomparable.

  • Boppard & Bonn - 6

We arrive in Boppard, found nestling on the banks of one of the Rhine’s largest loops, early this morning. There will be a little free time to explore, perhaps taking the chairlift to the hilltop above the town for spectacular views of one of the Rhine’s most stunning sweeping loops, before leaving late morning, continuing on our journey to Bonn. Famed as the birthplace of Beethoven, the former capital of West Germany is also home to the Bonner Munster, one of Germany’s oldest churches, with its Romanesque and Gothic influences. The Munster shares a three-cornered square with the 18th century Rococo Town Hall and a statue of Beethoven.

  • Cologne/UK - 7

Arrive in Cologne in the early hours.

By air: Disembark and transfer to Dusseldorf airport for the flight home.

By rail: Coach transfer to Brussels and onto Eurostar bound for St Pancras.
